It is widely known and accepted that our thoughts and emotions are energy. As energy, they stimulate and affect our physical bodies and biological systems. Many of us only have to think of a scary movie and our heartbeat begins to race. And each of us is aware of the effect of everyday stress. In both examples, a thought has energetically triggered a physiological response.

Energy medicine holds that every thought, feeling and experience you have ever had passes through your energy field and leaves its own residual calling card in your physical body. Many thoughts are light and essentially meaningless. They have minimal impact on the body. However, others are heavy and can lead to a profound weakening of the physical body.

Every single one of us experiences fear and negativity and engages in activity or behaviour that weakens our energy from time to time. And not all of us experience problems. However, we do develop illnesses and crises when we remain in a weakened state for prolonged periods or completely surrender to negativity. Moreover, we accelerate the development of problems when we "know better" intellectually but through our actions we give implicit permission for the negative situation to continue.

According to the principles of energy anatomy, the main organs and parts of our bodies are mapped to one of the seven chakras. Using this mapping, the underlying cause of physical illness can be traced back to the emotional, psychological or spiritual issue involved. The major correspondences are outlined below.

First chakra corresponds to the base of the spine, legs, bones, immune system
Second chakra corresponds to the reproductive system, large intestine, bladder, hip area
Third chakra corresponds to the stomach, small intestines, kidney, gallbladder, pancreas
Fourth chakra corresponds to the heart, lungs, shoulders, arms
Fifth chakra corresponds to the throat, neck, mouth
Sixth chakra corresponds to the brain, nervous system, eyes, ears
Seventh chakra corresponds to the skin, muscular and skeletal systems
