The above statements have been known and accepted by practitioners of complementary and holistic medicine as well as healers, shamans, psychometrists and psychics for thousands of years.

But now conventional science recognises this as fact. And for years medical doctors have used devices such as electroencephalographs (EEG) and electrocardiograms (ECG) to detect and measure the energy produced by living tissue and the body's biological processes. Today Kirlian photography is widely accepted and used to document and assess the human energy field, as shown below.

In some of the most exciting experiments currently being undertaking, quantum physicists have acknowledged the existence of an electromagnetic field that pulsates around the entire human body. Moreover, scientists are now positing that through this energy field we are in constant communication with everything and everyone around us. Without us being aware of it, our energy field is engaged in a continual exchange of information.

It is this information contained in the human energy field that forms the basis of energy medicine. Practitioners of energy medicine believe that this field contains residues of our life experiences. Our thoughts and emotions, both good and bad, interact with and impact our energy field and in turn our physical bodies, cells and tissues.

As energy, the field that surrounds each of us operates on wavelengths and frequencies. Moreover, it is possible to tune in to a person's energy much like tuning in to a radio station. Like radio signals, human energy signals can travel thousands of miles. And like radio receivers, these signals are detected and decoded by Intuitives.

Medical intuitives scan the human energy field, concentrating on the images and information that indicate imbalance. During energetic assessments, Intuitives focus on the human body's seven energy centres.

Each centre, also known as a chakra, contains the essence of a principle or life lesson that we must learn so that our spirit can evolve into a higher consciousness.

First chakra relates to our physical body and identity in the material world
Second chakra relates to our sexuality and relationships to others
Third chakra relates to our "self": self-esteem, self-respect and self-discipline
Fourth chakra relates to our emotional development and our ability to love, forgive and empathise
Fifth chakra relates to our willpower and power to make choices
Sixth chakra relates to our ability to reason and react based on clarity of mind, insight and intuition
Seventh chakra relates to how we integrate our spirituality into our daily lives

By tuning in and scanning these centres, a medical intuitive assesses the human energy field and provides insight into the emotional, psychological and spiritual issues that lie at the root of life crises and physical illness.

The Chakra Series

For more information about the chakra system, read my eight-part article The Chakra Series. The first part is an overview, setting out what the system is all about. And then each subsequent week, I take each chakra in turn to demystify this mystical system. Read each installment below:
