Melanoma is more likely on the body's left-hand side.
Doctors are stumped. I offer a possible explanation.
Let's discuss — join my new forums!
This week I came across some very interesting medical research. Doctors studying the occurrences of skin cancer discovered something that has more than puzzled them – it’s left them baffled. What they’ve found is that skin melanomas are more likely to appear on the left-hand side of the body than the right-hand side.
Medical researchers began their investigative efforts by examining cases in Britain where they found the instances of skin cancers occurring on the left-hand side of the body were more common than the right by nearly 20 percent. This surprised them as they could offer no immediate explanation as to why melanoma would favour one side of the body over the other. So they decided to look to incidents in other countries.
They expanded the scope of their research to consider cases of skin cancer beyond England and Scotland to include those reported in the Netherlands, Australia and the United States. And while the percentages varied from country to country, scientists reached the same conclusion – that statistically significant higher numbers of skin cancers occur on the left-hand side of the body than the right. With that, they began to search for an explanation.
The first possible explanation considered was reporting anomalies. However, careful examination of the various cancer registries involved led the researchers to discount this explanation.
They also rejected the hypothesis that it is down to the way that left-handed people apply sunscreen. First, only approximately 11 percent of the population is left-handed. Moreover, the argument fell down when they factored in the skin cancers appearing on the lower limbs – where handedness wouldn’t play a role in the application of sunscreen – and on young children who wouldn’t apply their own sunscreen.
They even considered driving habits. But drivers in Britain and Australia sit on the right-hand of the car. So the hypothesis of people hanging their arms out the window while they drive had to be discounted – as this would mean that British and Australian right arms would spend more time in the sun.
Another theory looked at how people sunbathe. It went along the lines that people in the northern hemisphere would lie facing south and would then get more sun on the left-hand side of the body as the sun moved from east to west. But even this had to be dismissed based on the left-hand bias found in the Australian melanoma cases.
In the end, researchers said that they could not offer a plausible explanation as to why skin cancer occurs more frequently on the left-hand side of the body. But what they did say was that based on their findings and the numbers involved that it was statistically highly unlikely to be down to chance or recording error. Well, this got me thinking.
I wonder if there’s not another possible explanation. As a medical intuitive, I offer this to you, dear readers. I start from the premise that we are not merely physical creatures but beings of energy and spirit as well. So, let’s consider these findings from a spiritual and energetic perspective.
Metaphysical teachings have long associated the right-hand side of the body with male energy, masculinity, yang, logic, reason and the material. The left-hand side of the body is said to represent feminine energy, femininity, yin, emotion, creativity, intuition and the spiritual. So, could the reason be down to something going awry in the creativity, emotions or spirituality of these sufferers? Perhaps, but I think this is only a part of it.
Next, I feel that we should remember that we are talking about cancer. To be sure, this is a complicated disease. Its causes can be traced to toxins in the environment, one’s genetics, viral infection as well as our energy and emotions. However, studies have backed up what medical intuitives have known for a long time – people with cancer frequently have very deep, unresolved feelings of guilt and fear.
Now we are getting somewhere. We’ve looked at the significance of the left-hand side of the body, representing our creativity and emotions. We add the cancer element of the unfinished business of guilt and fear. But there’s more. We need to consider the organ affected – the skin.
Energetically speaking, our skin represents our individuality, our sense of self, our image. When people see us, they cannot help but see our skin. From a purely physical point of view, our skin is one of the fundamental ways through which we show ourselves to the world. You might say that at this very basic level our skin is a symbol of who we are. So, let’s put it all together and see what we can come up with.
Through my work, I have come to believe that nothing in this world happens by chance. We might not understand why – but nothing is random. So, I agree with the scientists – skin cancer isn’t simply more likely to occur on the left-hand side of the body. There’s a reason. As a medical intuitive, I proffer that the explanation may well lie in the non-physical – the realm of the spirit and energy.
If I were in contact with these researchers, I would request that they take another look at these cases. Specifically, I would like them to factor in the emotional, psychological, spiritual and energetic states of these people.
The questions I would ask is whether the individuals affected consider themselves to be happy and fulfilled. Do they like the way that they look? Do they like themselves? Are they honest with themselves and with the world about who they really are? Do they have problems dealing with change? Are they engaged in self-hate or some form of denial? Are they able to constructively and adequately express their emotions? Their creativity? I could go on but you should get my drift.
Maybe someone will follow up this research with a new line of analysis. Maybe you have your own ideas or possible explanations. Please share your thoughts with me as well as the rest of the IntuitiveBridges communities by joining the Journey to Power forums!
