Blind man sees with “sixth sense”!
Putting a blind man in a maze might sound like the opening of some sort of cruel joke. But that’s precisely what researchers at Harvard Medical School recently did. And while you might cringe at the thought of what happened next, let’s just say that the researchers didn’t see this one coming – pun intended.
In this scientifically-controlled experiment, a man who is totally blind was able to navigate an obstacle course consisting of chairs and boxes – perfectly. Not only did he not bump into anything, but they said that it was as if he could somehow “see” the objects in his path and just “knew” which way to turn to avoid them.
Based on the findings of this experiment, the researchers involved have concluded that it is possible for an unaided blind person to make his way through a maze intuitively, by using the power of his mind alone.
According to one of the scientists, “It shows us the importance of these evolutionary ancient visual paths. They contribute more than we think they do for us to function in the real world.”
Further, this research supports the conclusion that an increasing number of neuroscientists are reaching that all of us have the ability within our subconscious minds to do things not only that we don’t believe we can do but that are seemingly objectively impossible.
I find this research absolutely fascinating. It’s yet another step that conventional science has taken towards acknowledging the true power of the human mind and incalculable capabilities of one’s intuition.
The man in this experiment didn’t have any external, visual cues to guide him. He had to rely exclusively on his internal, non-visual clues. This man was able to use the world behind his eyes to navigate his way through the world in front of his eyes.
And this got me thinking how frequently we dismiss that which is inside of us or is invisible in favour of that which is outside of us – that which can be felt, touched and yes, seen.
Granted this experiment is something of an extreme example. But extreme examples are what make for such an unorthodox conclusion in the scientific community. Nonetheless at the bare minimum, this experiment proves the existence of an “internal navigation system” that we have at our disposal. Do we have to use it? No. Should we use it to the exclusion of our other senses and faculties? Again, no. But that doesn’t mean that we should sweep it under the carpet either. It’s rather like it’s another string to our bow, if you will.
What I believe is that we should use every part, every resource, every faculty and every capability that we possess to help us make the most of our lives. It’s time to move past the notions of Descartes, Newton and even Darwin. We are so clearly more than flesh, bones, a brain, some cells and a handful of chemical reactions.
I would posit that we will ultimately learn that this man was interacting with his environment, namely the obstacle course, based on an energetic exchange of signals, perceptions and impressions, albeit in a way that he wasn’t consciously aware of.
We are so much more than our physical bodies. We are energy. And the more we acknowledge this and actively work to engage our energy selves, the more congruous as human and spiritual beings we become.
I would encourage you to ask yourself whether you are going through life seeing yourself as a one-dimensional physical being. If that’s working for you, great. But if it’s not, then I urge you to begin to explore voluntarily the world that the man in this experiment has been forced to live in – the world behind your eyes.
Whether you call it your subconscious, soul, spirit, energy or even that little voice inside, it’s time that you came to appreciate that there’s more to you than meets the eye.
Every day I work with clients who have chosen to empower themselves to make the changes that they need to live a healthier and more authentic life. Through my Intuitive Life Coaching I provide one-on-one sessions to guide and inspire my clients to do it for themselves, whereas my Medical Intuitive Readings help identify the spiritual issues underlying illness. If you are ready to accept that challenge and behold the awesome potential of your own powerhouse, then let’s get started today!
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone of you for your readership, support and participation with IntuitiveBridges. I wish you peace, harmony and much, much happiness for the holiday season and for the future!
Don’t forget about my Journey to Power forums. Please join me there and tell me about what you think of this experiment and whether you think there's more to us than meets the eye! I look forward to your postings!
Finally, this week over at PsychicBridges, I encourage my readers to start thinking about what 2009 may have in store for us. Will the other shoe drop? Will it be more of the same? Or could it be better than ever? Read my article here!
