Journey to Power by Alan Bridges

  Alan Bridges

Monday 5 January 2009

Present time is the key to everything!

No matter which spiritual path you follow, all the great masters have tried to teach us that the way to becoming conscious and enlightened is to be in the moment. Even today I challenge you to find a single self-help book that does not emphasise the importance of being in the present time.

But what do we mean by this – being in present time? Why is it so important? And how to we get there?

When we talk about being in the present or in the now, we aren’t referring to one’s physical location. Due to the laws of nature, we are physically always in the present. But energetically, spiritually we can be anywhere and at any time.

More than just a physical body, we are also the sum of our thoughts, attitudes, memories, beliefs, superstitions, choices – and the list goes on and on. And because these parts of us are not tied to our physical bodies, they are free to travel back to what happened yesterday as easily as they can remain stuck on a relationship that ended twenty years ago. Indeed we can, metaphorically speaking, leave pieces of ourselves all over the world across many different time zones.

But whether you’re Christian, Jewish, Muslim or Buddhist, the goal that these great religions set for us is to maintain our spirit and our energy (read our thoughts, attitudes, memories, beliefs, superstitions, choices, etc.) fully in the body, meaning in the present moment.

Every sacred text inspires us and instructs us to gather up our fragments and retrieve our spiritual splinters so that we become a singe force of body and soul in the here and now.

The reason that this is so important is because even the smallest piece of this kind of energy wrongly placed can retard one’s growth. It can even, in my belief, lead to physical illness as it deprives the physical body of its animating life force.

Stated differently, I have come to learn that if we can retrieve those bits of ourselves that we have left in the past, we can become empowered to accomplish all sorts of things from the mundane to the extraordinary. We can not only reinvent ourselves, we can transform who we are at the deepest level.

Such metamorphosis becomes possible when we have pursued oneness to a point at which our spirit and our energy become so strong that they actually transcend and dominate our physical bodies, our physical reality.

When I undertake a Medical Intuitive Reading on a client, one of the first things I do is to seek out with my intuition and intention any memories, events or other aspects of that person that is in the past and is currently affecting their overall health. What I perceive are the fragments of their history that are shaping their present-day reality. Whether the client has experienced them as flashbacks or as mere filters on how they see and interact with the world around them, the power of these spiritual splinters should not be underestimated.

It seems a truism that all change happens and can only happen in the present – not in the past nor in the future, and yet so many of us are anywhere but in the present moment.

As you read this, I encourage you to stop for a few seconds and check in with yourself. Where are you energetically? Where are your thoughts? And how long have they been there?

Whether you are trying to heal yourself from illness, trying to get out of debt, trying to unblock your creativity or simply trying to live a better and more authentic life, your greatest obstacle will come from your inability to let go of the past. You’ll be focused on too many things and you’ll be (energetically speaking) in too many places – and in too many times.

The key to getting oneself into present time is as simple as it is complex. It is – prepare to have the secret revealed – to reduce your distractions and to learn to focus. That’s it.

Learn from your past. Honour your past. But then, tie up those loose ends and let them go. Jesus said it very eloquently in the New Testament that you simply have to “let the dead bury their own dead”.

When you bury your dead (read your past), you concentrate and distil your power. You release what’s behind you through forgiveness and then you set yourself free to retrieve and to focus on what’s in front of you.

No matter what the dream or goal, you will accomplish it so much faster if you are wholly in the present moment. To be sure, it’s a challenge. We are creatures of habit and letting go is not something that comes easy to us. Yet with determination it is possible.

Every day I work with people who are ready to ignite the power of change in their lives by becoming based more in the present than in the past. Through my Intuitive Life Coaching I provide one-on-one sessions to guide and inspire my clients to do it for themselves, whereas my Medical Intuitive Readings help identify the spiritual issues underlying illness. If you are ready to accept that challenge and behold the awesome potential of your own powerhouse, then let’s get started today!

Don’t forget about my Journey to Power forums. Please join me there and tell me about what you think about the importance or the challenge of being in present time! I look forward to your postings!

Finally, this week over at PsychicBridges, I set out my manifesto for 2009 - let's learn our lesson, pick ourselves up and move on! Read my article here!
